What Fossils can you find at Herne Bay?

(Looking for Fossils at Herne Bay) - 2005

Herne bay is famous for sharks teeth. Because they can be found in the Oldhaven, Woolwich or Thanet Beds, there is a large variety to be found. For instance, in the sandy thanet beds, the sand shark Odontaspis teretidens can be found. Other common shark species found at Herne Bay are Striatolamia striata and Palaeogaleus vincenti.

Gastropods and Bivalves can all be found, at the East end of the bay, these can be found pyritised and in a good condition. Fossil cones can also be found within this area along with a number of fish remains including Cakkorphynchus newtoni, Elasmodus hunteri and Otodus obliquus.

Other finds include pyretic derived Beetles originally from the London Clay.
